  • Aris Allen is known for making vintage style swing dance shoes and reproduction models that are more authentic equipment for dancing swing than ordinary ballroom shoes are. Their philosophy being that your dancing will look more authentic if you wear the same style of shoes the inventors of the dance were wearing. These combine the look you want with the dance sole you need.
  • Please check the sizing recommendations before placing your order.
  • Item #: 470-BK

SPECS:

  • The heels are a little over 1.5” inches (almost 4 cm) tall and the base of the heel is 1.25” inch (over 3 cm) wide. The front of the sole is about 3/8" thick so you are effectively only on a heel that's a bit over an inch tall (about 2.5 cm).

SIZING TIPS - (ALL SHOES ARE USA SIZES):
(Our returns show we are right about 90% of the time)

These fit true to size. Most of our test dancers wore their normal size.

Below is the result of trying these on dozens of dancers.

Wide width:
• These are medium width shoes so you may be best ordering 1/2 size larger than you wear in wide width shoes.

Medium width:
• You will probably wear your normal size in these. If you often wear two different sizes you most likely want the larger of the two.

Narrow width:
• These are not narrow but have a slightly pointed toe so if you go down a 1/2 size smaller than you fit in narrow shoes there is a chance that you will still have enough room in the toe.

When you first try these on you'll want to push your foot as far back as possible, tighten the buckle, then stand up to test the sizing.

ABOUT SUEDE SOLES:

  • These are made with suede soles which are wonderful to dance on but require occasional upkeep (it's usually a problem with catching the edge on a piece of hardwood that is sticking up on the dance floor). This almost never happens with these shoes, but we think it's only fair to warn you.
  • If you need to re-glue the suede many people just use crazy glue gel. We have also found that commercially produced shoe repair glue (available from the shoe repair shop in your local mall) works great.
  • You're not supposed to wear suede soles outside - but every swing dancer knows that you can make suede soles faster by wearing them everywhere to get them dirty, then dance in them until they're shiny on the bottom.
  • If you prefer them less zippy you can dull the “mirror finish” they can get by roughing them up with a wire brush periodically. Just remember that when they are wet from walking in the rain they won't spin as easily (conversely - if they're too slippery just spill your drink on the floor and step in it!).
